The Los Angeles Times Reviews The Black Girl Next Door
Growing up in greater Los Angeles, I read the Los Angeles Times whenever I could. Long before I moved east, it was the paper of record. So you can imagine my awe at having my first book reviewed in its pages.

I was excited to read your book review in the L.A. Times today. I’m your age and grew up in RPV at the same time. There weren’t that many of us then so I can definitely empathize. I look forward to reading the book and attending the signing at Borders.

January 9th, 2009 at 5:46 pmI read your book and although it was painful because I identified with so much that you went through it was also very enlightening. I am in my late 50’s and know the negative images I have to deal with because I was an African American girl who did not have “good” hair and was not pretty.
